NEC Error CodesNEC Facsimile Support is very good. Call (800) 232-9632 (select option 2 twice for fax diagnostic assistance). NEC will sell parts at retail prices to the general public. In some instances, refurbished parts may be available from NEC, or from National Equipment Sales and Service, (800) 893-5395.Laser error CALL SERVICEMAN H: Cycle the power. If the error recurs, replace both the thermal fuse and the thermister on the fuser. Clean the thermister if a replacement is unavailable. Laser error: CALL SERVICEMAN L: Cycle the power. May indicate a problem with the laser. NEC NEFAX 1 ram clear Hold 8 down while turning power on. Display should read maintenance. Press 5 0 1 enter reset. NEC NEFAX 2 ram clear Hold 8 down while turning power on. Display should read maintenance. Press function then one-touch key #5. Enter code = 3 0 1 then press enter/redial. NEC NEFAX 3EX ram clear Hold 8 down while turning power on. Press function then 1-touch key #5. Press 1 0 1 enter. NEC NEFAX 12 ram clear Hold 8 down while turning power on. Display should read maintenance. Press 5. Display should read ram clear. Press 0 1 enter eject/reset. NEC NEFAX 14 ram clear Turn power off. Flip the maintenance switch on the bottom of machine. Turn power on. Display should read maintenance. Press function. Press the P4 key. Display should read ram clear. Press 0 1 return. Display should read necam. Display should read maintenance. Turn power off. Return switch on bottom of machine to its original position. NEC NEFAX Bit III ram clear Turn power off. Remove metal plate near the power supply. From left to right, locate the first oval hole past two circular holes. Insert a pen to flip the switch. Turn power on while holding 8 down. Display should read maintenance. Press function 5. Display should read ram clear. Press return. Move the switch back to its original position. Replace the metal plate NEC NEFAX BIT V ram clear On the left side of the keypad, near the green A key is a small hole. Insert a paper clip in the hole and press inward while pressing the 5 key. Display should read bb ram clear for a few seconds. Press return. Press next until the display reads unit. Press the green C key (a string of 0's and 1's should be on the display). Enter 1 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 1 then press return. Press next and B to turn auto-reception on (AUTORX=0). Set the time and date. Press next until B:TIME/DATE is displayed, then B. NEC NEFAX BIT V Notes: If the ADF won't pull pages through, make sure the side cover is securely latched in place. Battery is soldered onto the motherboard and is the cause of the machine losing its parameters (ram clear after each power loss). Needs RAM cleared after every power loss when the battery wears out. Press function. Press P4. Press 1 0 1 enter enter enter. NEC NEFAX 430 ram clear (a/k/a Mitafax LDC550) Hold stop down while turning power on. Display should read service enable. Press 8 3 7 quickly. Display should read country initialize. Press start start stop (default dip switch setting = 10110101). NEC NEFAX 460/461/462 ram clear Hold 8 down while turning power on. Display should read maintenance. Press function. Press # (the one-touch 5 key). Display should read init=0000. Press 1 1 0 1 redial redial. NEC NEFAX 460/461/462 "PRINTER FAILURE" error message: turn the power off, watch the display closely, turn the power back on, and IMMEDIATELY upon seeing the "PRINTER FAILURE" message quickly turn the power off then on again. Clean the thermister located on the top front side of the teflon fuser roller using a pipe cleaner (or replace the thermister). NEC NEFAX 460/461/462 remarks: Make sure the battery switch on the back of the unit is ON. In case of an inverted keypad, dip switch 05, change bit 5 to 0 (bits are numbered right to left). NEC NEFAX 460/461/462 toner out: Place black tape over the clear plastic toner detect window on the imaging unit to defeat an out of toner alarm. NEC NEFAX 480 ram clear Hold 8 down while turning power on. Press ---> until the display reads Maintenance and Ram Clear. Press enter. Press ---> until the display reads all clear. Press enter. Press stop/reset (parameter list will be printed). An excellent TX unit with inherent print problems related to ink filling and clogged print heads. EXTREMELY sensitive to cool temperatures, low humidity, and lack of use. Ensure the ink is flowing; check supply tube for ink flow and/or air bubbles. Replace print head, supply tube, and ink pump (annually $$$$$). Operate at or above 70-degrees. Carriage errors: place machine in a warm environment; clean the PE sensor, carriage rails, encoder scale. Replace carriage motor. This model fails miserably at high altitude and in dry climates. In Denver, 95% of the units sold required repairs in excess of $700 within the first two years. Possibly the worst model ever produced by NEC. Difficult to work on (ink pump replacement takes several hours). NEC NEFAX 515/545 ram clear If the power is ON, on press register # * 1 2 3 , or If the power is OFF, hold reset/eject while turning the power on, then quickly press 1 2 3 and the display should read maintenance service enable. Press 0 9 8 and the display should read initialize: full. Press enter. At Country B5 press send. At OEM 38 press send. Press enter. Press 0 0 1 to exit NEC NEFAX 515/545 (a/k/a Mitafax LDC650, Swintec 300) Can use Swintec 300 or Mita 6XX toner if plug "T" is switched from spent toner to the Mita/Swintec cartridge. False change i.u. error messages caused by faulty cam on toner cartridge. PLEASE CHANGE I.U. after installing a new I.U.: the toner cartridge cam did not turn over and reset the counter. NEC NEFAX 515/545 set number of redials: Press register # * 1 2 3. Press 0 2 4 to set the redial count. Press enter followed by the redial count (e.g. 3) then press enter. Press 0 0 1 to exit NEC NEFAX 515/545 ADF jams will consistently occur when attempting to transmit/copy pages that have a slight downward curl produced by a laser printer (a/k/a Mita 600's and Swintec 300 equivalents). NEC NEFAX 565/595 ram clear (a/k/a Copystar, Omnifax) Enter maintenance mode by pressing function # * 1 2 3. Press 0 9 8 and the display should read Initialize: Full. Press enter. At Country B5 press send. At OEM 38 press send. Press enter. Press 0 0 1 to exit. If the NEFAX 565/595 sends blank pages, ram clear it for a temporary cure. Try reseating the motherboard connectors. Test. If still blank then CAREFULLY reseat the connectors on the CIS. NEC NEFAX 770/771 ram clear Soft reset does not affect user programming (press the button located in a hole underneath the keypad). TX/RX in memory dump: hold down 7 while turning power on. Respond with the last five digits of the serial number when prompted to enter. Turn power on while holding down the 8 key. Press * stop/reset menu menu menu register menu menu menu menu. Display should read self diagnose. Press next. Display should read BB ram clear. Select item to delete (all) and press enter. NEC NEFAX 790 ram clear Press the button under the control panel while the display reads please wait. Press 1 and scroll through menu items and program. On ALL CLEAR turn all items on and press return. cycle the power. NEC NEFAX 880 ram clear Insert paper clip in hole next to power light. Press 1 during "please wait" message and within 3 seconds. Press enter enter. |
